It never occurs to me that one day I will join this industry. I remember when I was young; my aunt was in the insurance industry. Back then, I heard stories about how tough this industry is. Why did I decided to join this industry or in particular, Peter Tan Organization (PTO®) then? Well, there are a few reasons for it.
I wanted a career with flexible timing and yet allow me to earn a substantial income. I had a polytechnic education and started working upon graduation. My career path was pretty smooth. I had good bosses and colleagues but I dislike the routine working hours and office politics. It was then that it occurred to me that this maybe the industry I am looking for.
It wasn’t a smooth transition for me, even up to this point in time. My best friend, Jam, was the one who introduced me to this industry and spoke to me about Peter Tan Organization (PTO®). Being the adventurous type, I prefer to look around and try out different things. It was this character that made me went through obstacles while pursuing this career. I almost joined another insurance company when I realised that without any sales training, I am being thrown out to the field just like that. That’s it. I decided that this industry isn’t for me.
It wasn’t until earlier this year, when I got bored of office jobs again, that I decided to go for a career switch. At that point of time, Jam spoke to me about joining Peter Tan Organization (PTO®) again. I was pretty sceptical about it but I went for the interview anyway.
The interview with Smith, my current manager, was a pretty interesting one. It was the first interview I went to that lasted for more than 2 hours. Gosh. However, it benefited me. He showed me the possibilities and what I can achieve here. I went through the base camp, experienced different things and got to know a few good friends. However, base camp is a selection camp. Am I able to be selected? I believe everyone, in one way or another; have experienced the anxiety of waiting for the result of something. For example, test results. This was how I felt.
I waited and waited. The phone suddenly rang. I viewed the message – “Christina, You passed iBase 103 J” I jumped with joy!
This excitement lasted me through all the way till I was contracted, which is about 2 weeks. Why 2 weeks only? Well, I didn’t close any close for 2 weeks, my boss was on reservist for 2 weeks and I couldn’t get use to the cultural difference here.
At this period of time, I thought of quitting. My working partners do not know of this idea of mine. However, one of them appeared at this time to pull me up. He helped me to close my first 2 case and after that, I went on a closing spree. Interesting twist right? From the person who had totally no production at all to a $10,000 production in the first month of being contracted. Not only that, I can slowly got used to the culture here. Instead of being late all the time, I ended up being early for work all the time. This was big news for the people around me as I am always late.
I met up with Jam last weekend. She hasn’t seen me since I embarked on this career and her first comment was that I have matured. Not in terms of appearance but in terms of the way I think and the way I carry myself. Looking back, I am really thankful that she introduced me to Peter Tan Organization (PTO®). Without her, I won’t be able to achieve what I have today and know the great people around me.
Not just Jam, I am thankful to Smith for selecting me during the base camp, believing in me when I am down and rendering me support when I need help. I am thankful to Peter Tan too, for not only selecting me during the base camp but also for the personal coaching sessions when he has much on his hands. I have learnt much from Smith and Peter Tan but I believe that there are more I can learn. Without Peter Tan Organization (PTO®), I may still be switching job and looking for the perfect place. This is the place I feel belong. Visit me @ petertan.com.sg
